Hospitalization (fr)

Hospitalization

What formalities have to be completed before being admitted to the hospital? In case of an emergency? Or during labor? What does a stay in the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc look like? In this section we will answer these questions.

Before patient management, samples are often taken to establish an accurate diagnosis of the disease and determine treatment and medical follow-up. After this essential step, biological materials, called residual human body material, are sometimes unused. This residual material is an indispensable and precious tool for scientific research. This is why it is kept in the Biobank of the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc.

Informed consent in the context of standard hospitalization or day hospital (surgical)

For further information about informed consent, consult our leaflet (in French).

  1. During consultation, the doctor will give you the reasons of your hospitalization. Make sure you understand them. If you still have questions, please contact him or her before your admission.

  2. For any standard hospitalization or day hospital (surgical), you have to sign an informed consent form which testifies that you have been given the reasons of your hospitalization on the one hand, and that you authorize the caregivers to provide every healthcare necessary on the other hand.

    • If everything is clear and you have made your decision, you can directly sign the form while you are consulting.
    • If you wish a reflection period, you can take the form to fill it in later. When your decision is made, please fill it in, scan or take a photo of it and send it by email to consentements-saintluc@uclouvain.be
    • If time is short, you will be allowed to sign a copy on the day of your admission.

If, for some reason, you do not have, or you do not have anymore, the informed consent form given by the doctor, you can download it below:

Estimate of the cost of your hospitalization

You would like an estimate of the hospitalization’s cost at your expense? Please review the following document (in French).

Please note that if you are covered by social security from another country of the European Union (+ Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland), a EHIC card is not enough for scheduled treatment (standard hospitalization and day hospital, some outpatient care services) even if you are affiliated to and in order with a Belgian health insurance (you have on your mutual insurance sticker 180-307 or 180-312 codes). You will have to provide us an authorization from your social security (S2 form – formerly E112) or pay an estimate of the full cost of your stay before your admission.
